Episode 72: Batman Beyond

Tonight, we are finishing the long-unfinished DCAU series with Batman Beyond.

A dark, possible future for Batman, Batman Beyond balances out the bleak future with sly humor. Is it the “for sure” future? That’s up to you to decide.

Topics Discussed
Original Villians
Creepy Ra’s
Mad Stan Berkewitz
This Never Happened to the Other Fella
Terry’s Friend Dates a Robot!
Clown Gangs? Akira Influence?
The BatBoys from Brazil and the lost Batman Beyond movie!

Bonus: The Legend of Korra

The Legend of Korra

The Legend of Korra

Tonight, we do a quick mini ep about the sequel series to Avatar the last Airbender…. The Legend of Korra! The ULTIMATE Pallette cleanser after last week’s weeaboo special of Teen Titans. Anime-inspired done right? Why even call it Anime-inspired? It took and branched out, became it’s own, beautiful thing. Neil and I talk about why you should watch Legend of Korra, at Korranation.com.

Korra does the Dio devil horns

You just don't see expressionism in animation anymore. Oh wait! There's Korra.

Anime changed a lot in a decade

God Bless the manga artist Adachi, who has such a cute artstyle, and his absolute love for sports, especially baseball. Because he has had multiple of his mangas made into animes, you can actually see how, with the same base character designs, anime changed over the years.

Same thing being animated, different techniques… this is as controlled an experiment as you can get.

I personally think H2, the earlier series, looks better animated, however both aren’t BAD by any means.

Episode 65: Duck Dodgers and the Green Loontern!

The Green Loontern

The Green Loontern

A whole podcast on a single episode of a cartoon? Only if it’s something as epic as The Green Loontern episode of Duck Dodgers! A cartoon made with love, with an episode made with love, this is still technically part of the crossover series with Tooncast Beyond, with Mike Blanchard! How can a cartoon made with such love be destroyed by management?

Topics Discussed
Daffy turns heel
Reviving the Corps
Offending the target audience
Robot Highschool Rivalries
A superstitious and cowardly lot
What does Neil Gaiman think about Teen Titans?

Episode 64: Batman Year One

Exiled: A Jim Gordon Story

Exiled: A Jim Gordon Story

Tonight on Animation Aficionados, we cover Batman: Year One. This is an animated movie based off the groundbreaking graphic novel and post-crisis reboot of Batman after Crisis. I appreciate what the movie intended to do, however in the end, I think the movie overall fell short.

Topics Covered:
The Art missing the rawness
Being too literal in an adaptation
Classic Noir storytelling
You either Die a hero…. or live long enough to have adaptation decay
The Catwoman Short is Better

We have some bonus material from Space Captain Steve as well!
Bonus Topics:
Toon Link is not bad
Ahnuld’s commentaries are GOLD!
