Episode 55: A Crisis On Two Earths

Just bring it.

Get away from her, you bitch!

Tonight, we continue with our crisis of two podcasts! Tooncast Beyond and Animation Aficionados sit down together and talk about perhaps the best DC movie yet, A Crisis On Two Earths. Featured on this episode are TFG1 Mike and Steve “Megatron”.

In a story originally meant for the DCAU, the Justice League meet their match. Literally! A heroic version of Lex Luthor leads them to a world in which the super powers, dubbed the Crime Syndicate, are evil. What follows is an exciting, non-stop rollercoaster of an action movie. We highly approve of this one, and we think you will, too.

Minor spoilers in this episode. The bad guys lose. Bet you didn’t see that coming.

Show Topics:

Karloff. Not Carrey.

We are once again joined by Kittyhawk and Tom Revor to talk about Christmas cartoons! What else? We bring up as many Christmas cartoons as we could think of. Some revered. Some reviled. Some barely even remembered. And of course, we talk about the king of the holiday special: RANKIN BASS.

So stoke up the fire, roast some chestnuts, and put some marshmallows in your hot cocoa. It’s time to talk about some animated holiday classics! BOW DOWN! BOWN DOWN! BEFORE THE POWER OF SANTA!!

Episode 53: Superman/Batman – Public Enemas

The Impossible Kick

The Impossible Kick

This week on Animation Aficionados, you can believe a man can polish shit. Superman/Batman: Public Enemas is on the chopping block today. The crossover with Tooncast Beyond continues, and by god, Mike brought a friend, Steve “Megatron”. The Tooncast folks sort of disagree with me on this movie, but I think it’s important to know what the (crappy) source material is just to marvel at how much Timm changed to make a cohesive story out of it. Like sewing together a bunch of old carpet squares to make a prom dress. Admirable effort, but it’s still made from it’s source material.

Topics Discussed
NOT being Faithful to the Source Material
Ed McGuiness sucks
Jeff Loeb Sucks
Dropkick into a Mountain? Srsly?
Captain Atom reflects on him not being invited

Trouble in the balcony!

Trouble in the balcony!

Hi-ho! It’s Christmas time, and we’re doing something special. We’re doing The Muppets! What do Muppets have to do with animation? Well, they’re puppets… and that’s kind of a form of animation. …sorta.

Anyhoo, we’re joined this week by Stephanie O’Donnell and Don McLeod. For nearly two hours, we run through the entire history of the Muppets from Sam & Friends to Muppets In Space. We dig up some obscure Muppets you may not have even heard of. We talk about the Muppeteers, too.

This episode is dedicated to Jim Henson and Richard Hunt, two geniuses who left us too soon.

Is Oscar homeless?

Episode 52: Green Lantern – First Flight

The REAL Green Lantern movie

Green ring do your thing!

How is it that a movie that is literally half the length of the Ryan Reynolds Green Lantern can pack a more cohesive story? Well, you take out all the boring stuff, for one thing. Next, you severely truncate the origin story down to only a few minutes so that it doesn’t drag the story down. Then you completely ignore that Paralax ever existed and tell a story that people actually care about.

My goodness. Even though I probably would have preferred a story that took place on Earth and left the Green Lantern Corp. to the wayside, I cannot deny that this was one hell of a movie. I was impressed that the passing of the ring to Hal Jordan was only the beginning of the story and didn’t encompass and overpower the story. The characters were great. Even though we knew who the bad guy is, there were surprises to be had, anyway. This is a very spoileriffic review, which is why I’m getting my impressions out of the way right now. You might want to see the movie first.

And, of course, joining us again this week is TFG1 Mike for our continuing crossover with Tooncast Beyond. The episode wraps up before the 40-minute mark, but dread not, dear listeners! We have another 30 minutes worth of nonsense in our post-show.
