Episode 107: Guilty Pleasures

The unloved Tom & Jerry cartoons. Are they really that bad or just misunderstood?

The unloved Tom & Jerry cartoons. Are they really that bad or just misunderstood?

This week, Kittyhawk returns! We talk about guilty pleasures. These are cartoons that we love in spite of being less than polished and perhaps even a little reviled. Every cartoon lover has a small list of shows that are loved in spite of their problems. It’s the closest we come to nostalgia, but hey, at least we’re honest. These are not good shows. We’re not going paint them with a rosey shade of nostalgia paint. We’re just here to confess our sins.

Discussed:
Gene Deitch’s Tom & Jerry
70s and 80s Hanna-Barbera
Ruin Explorers
CLAMP
Love Hina
…And one confession from Neil that brings the house down

Episode 106: Totally Off Topic

Bob Bell as Bozo

Would YOUR child watch this guy?!

Today’s episode is about a whole lot of nothing. Thom Revor joins us as we talk about random cartoon news and occasionally stuff that has nothing to do with cartoons. We mostly talk about upcoming cartoon movies, including a whole lot of sequels that have us cringing. Yogi Bear 2?! Smurfs 2?!?! Why do you torture us, Hollywood?!

We also briefly mention the upcoming Bozo: The Lost Tape special, to air this Sunday. Bozo himself is not a cartoon (those Larry Harmon cartoons don’t count!!!), but he’s so tied to our love of animation that it would have been a crime not to mention him.

Stick around after the show for some rare clips and even more off-topic banter.

Episode 105: GoBots: Battle Of The Rock Lords

Battle Of The Rock Lords

Powerful Living Rocks

The Kittyhawk returns for another SHITTY MOVIE NIGHT! This time, it’s Gobots: Battle Of The Rock Lords. Guess what. We hated it. But you benefit, dear listener, because you get to listen to us riff on it for an hour.

In 1986, another transforming toy robot movie was released to theaters. Yes, I know. Transformers, Robotech, and Gobots all in one year. What were these companies thinking?

Battle Of The Rock Lords was meant to kick off a Gobots spin-off, the Rock Lords, powerful living rocks! This film is the only recorded attempt to kick off a series which never actually took place. Not only did the Rock Lords grind to a halt, but so did the Gobots. The Gobots were dead and buried months before the Transformers movie followed its lead in theaters.

This film features the talents of Telly Savalas, Margot Kidder, Roddy MacDowall, Michael Nouri, Frank Welker, and Peter Cullen.

Topics
Walking and talking
Sticker faces
Toy-accurate designs
Riding on a lava boat
Hanna-Barbara’s B-Team
Leader-1 is Jimmy Carter
Turbo is the Gacy clown
Scooter saves the day
Telly Savalas neither knows nor cares who Cy-Kill is
Margot Kidder passed up Superman III for this
The Rock Lords theme is utter butt rock
Gobotron vs Unicron

Fitor

Not actually from the movie. Look how much cooler Fitor looks in Japan!

Sureshock

The true evolution of Scooter.

This is NOT a reviews podcast!

Hooked On Phonics works for me!

Stop complaining that we don’t do our podcast like other shows on the internet. We’re not them.

Read the description. It’s at the top of the page. Stop complaining that we gloss over stuff. Occasionally, we do full plot reviews, but in general, what you hear is what you get. We’re a round-table discussion show. Not a reviews podcast. Period. End of discussion.

If you want a reviews show that slavishly goes over the entire plot with lame jokes episode after mind-numbing episode, go watch That Guy With The Glasses. You’re not going to get that here.

Episode 104: Japanese Transformers

Headmasters

We’re a MASTER FORCE of Transformers nostalgia buffs, here to entertain our ARMADA of fans. This is a podcast about ROBOTS IN DISGUISE that come from Japan.
Jinrai

Look again. This ain’t no Optimus Prime!

Sixshot

Now that you know who he is…
Oh never mind. You know the joke by now.

Headmaster Kids

Seriously! What is it with Transformers hanging out with damn kids?!
