On tonight’s Comic Connoisseurs, we talk about John Byrne’s Post-Crisis reboot of Man Of Steel, which has been attacked by critics, deconstruted by haters, but turns out was one of the best damn re-imaginings of the Kal-El ever. This is the first of our multi-part series on defending Post-Crisis DC Comics.
Hmm, episode 1, 2…. 4?
Where’s Episode 3? Or is this a numbering mistake?
Ask al Lowe
?
Sorry, it’s a vague reference. Al Lowe was a game author that worked for Sierra Online in the 90s and was the author of the (in)famous Leisure Suit Larry games. The joke is there is no Leisure Suit Larry 4. The series went 1 2 3 5.
And Scott Murphy took the joke one step further by having Leisure Suit Larry 4 show up in Space Quest 4 as a massive skynet computer virus
Aaaaah. Now I see. So he’s the guy behind Larry. Was vaguely familiar with the games.
So if Byrne was saddled with editorial mandates for MoS, who’s to say the elements that didn’t work for you in Birthright weren’t handed down to Waid the same way?
Because Waid wrote it with carte blanche and the only guideline being “update superman to the 21st century”
Good discussion. It would have been nice if you had contributed some screen captures from the books in the post for the episode. Some of the panels you described were of interest and it would be nice if I didn’t have to track them down. Just something to consider in the future. Loved the show.
