  1. Okay. I’m gonna listen to the ep in a few moments. But I just want to point one thing out.

You guys didn’t watch Wakfu? Quite possibly one of the better things to come out of France in the last ten years. Some of the best animation done with Flash since Samurai Jack and you didn’t watch it and put it on a list of stuff that resembles anime but was made in France?

Here is something to help plead my case:

Please do watch it if you have not(It’s on youtube subbed in English I’m 100% sure).

  2. I never watch The Mysterious Cities of Gold, when I was a kid I was focus to watch Christian cartoons and when I saw The Mysterious Cities of Gold coming on I always change the channel. That show give me an Christian cartoons vibe, I feel so sorry for not giving it a shot
I started to watch France cartoons call Wakfu and Dofus with my little Cousin, it a pretty fun show. That pretty much the only France Cartoons I enjoy, since they are the only ones I watch or give a chance to. That is because I was babysitting him and that his favorite shows 🙂
I do like the opening for Wakfu

  3. Where’s Wakfu?? Great podcast, but you guys missed one of the most beautiful French anime ever! Do yourselves a favor and give it a try. The plot is a bit generic (big bad guy, kid with mysterious powers, group of adventurers, etc.), but the atmosphere, colors, and animation is incredible.

Also, one of the episodes was animated in Japan by Madhouse. It’s an origin story for the main villain, so watch a few others before watching that.

  4. Was there a fandom for Code Lyoko in North America? It seemed like it was on Toonami forever when other more interesting stuff kept on getting cycled in and out block rotation. My impressions of it were pretty similar to Ben that it was a show you either just flipped the channel on or waited through the ending for the better show that came after it.

    • I don’t know. I never met anyone who actually liked it. Granted, I’m not of the age group of the target audience, but still, I can usually get some sort of indication of its popularity, either from internet buzz or just talking to friends of mine who are parents.

For Code Lyoko, I got nothing. Who the fuck watched this show?!

    • It was actually not on Toonami in the states, it was during an afternoon block where they would show animes that weren’t from Japan. It was Megumi or Mezumi something like that. They showed Totally Spies, Hi Hi Ami Yumi Puffy, Teen Titans etc.

  5. Ugh, that poster of Code Lyoko says it all for me. Those huge foreheads and it’s 2D/3D thingy just put me off from even glancing at the show. Heck, it doesn’t look that anime to me.

I think I posted something about Wakfu in your Inspired by Anime post a while back, but it occurred to me that no matter the quality of a cartoon(Wakfu’s animation is really, really good, even though it’s animated via Flash. Adobe Flash to be exact), it may not appeal to everyone. And since only the 1st two episodes are the only english dubs in existence, I’m not sure Neil will see beyond the 2 as I understand his POV about Dubs & Subs. Plus, the title “wakfu” sounds weird, so took me a while to get past that to watch the shows.

I’ll try to hunt down those english dubs the best I can. In the mean time, try checking out the links that AceCS posted. It has a sexy female elf at least haha.

Apologies if it seems like I’m bugging you over this. XD

  6. Kittyhawk was right about Thor 2, it was Christopher Eccleston as Malekith. And while I could respect Eccleston decision to not go back to Doctor Who, because of typecasting or maybe he’s not into conventions or maybe he just doesn’t like the campy genre stuff, he’s been in so many bad genre stuff ever since ,The Dark is Rising, Heroes, G.I. Joe, and even his role in Thor wasn’t really good, so it really seems he’s just being a jerk.
