Bonus: The Legend of Korra

The Legend of Korra

The Legend of Korra

Tonight, we do a quick mini ep about the sequel series to Avatar the last Airbender…. The Legend of Korra! The ULTIMATE Pallette cleanser after last week’s weeaboo special of Teen Titans. Anime-inspired done right? Why even call it Anime-inspired? It took and branched out, became it’s own, beautiful thing. Neil and I talk about why you should watch Legend of Korra, at Korranation.com.

Korra does the Dio devil horns

You just don't see expressionism in animation anymore. Oh wait! There's Korra.

  1. Is there something up with the audio? You guys seem to only be coming in on one side in my earphones.

Nice show anyhow. Korra looks damn good. Can’t wait to see the rest of the show.

  2. Hey guys. Thanks for doing an episode for Legend of Korra. I owe it to the first avatar series for getting me back into network animation. I wasn’t excited about cartoons for very long time. But from the first time I saw ATLA, I was like: “this is what a cartoon should be.” I wasn’t sure how they could follow it up with a new series, but they knocked it right out of the park. Some toons have become so focused on selling merchandise that they forget about good content. For Niel, seriously marathon the original ATLA. It does not disappoint.

    • How could we NOT do a Korra ep? This show is GOOD! Let’s hope Nick copies the production model of Korra for some more series. let’s hope the great ratings forces Cartoon Network to make GOOD stuff again.

      • Nothing save the sudden and violent simultaneous deaths of a lot of old men in suits and “demographic” spouting bean-counters up at CN could ever make the Cartoon Network good again. They are too deep into this game of copycat they’ve jumped into to ever get out of it with any success. They’ve cancelled good cartoons to make way for live action shows not fit for MTV or the Family channel. All in the hopes that somehow they can copy Disney’s model and start printing money off their own Hannah Montana or some-such nonsense.

There is no risk-taking or boundary pushing over there at CN now. And if it weren’t probably in a contract somewhere or written in stone by Turner himself, I know that someone would have gotten in, cut off all the cartoons and pushed CN Real until the whole thing sputtered and died a black withered wreck. Someone wants a money making machine with their name on it up there and is quite disappointed no one wants another network of cheap reality TV that’ll fatten their pockets and make sad cookie cutter entertainment for the gullible.

  3. Good show. I don’t get Nick with my TV package so I have not seen or even heard of this show. It sounds great and I’m looking forward to seeing it given your high praise. I immediately latched onto Avatar the Last Airbender, but I didn’t keep up with it, so I’m going to do a marathon watching my DVDs soon.

On the subject of TMNT, it has been a while since I watched the CGI movie, but I remember enjoying it. It wasn’t great, but I thought, as a casual TMNT fan, it was entertaining enough. The format is very good for TMNT, IMO. Of course, with today’s CGI, they could probably do a good live action film. Speaking of which, you mentioned the theories surrounding how the turtles would learn english. I got it! They learn it from watching MTV. They watch the first MTV broadcast and instantly get hooked. So they’re indoctrinated in 80’s lingo, cuisine and fashion. It could work! 🙂

  4. So, have you guys seen episodes of this show? According to the Nick web site and Wikipedia, it doesn’t premier until April 2012.

      • Hi Neal,

Yeah, I checked that out already. That’s what I’m talking about. There are pencil tests there and a trailer, but there have been no episodes air yet. So I guess you are judging the show strictly on the animation merits you have seen in these previews?

        Tim

        • You made this post a few days ago, so I don’t know if you’ve found the episode, but the creators released the first two episodes online and the show really is phenomenal. The animation is beyond amazing and the environments, especially everything in New Republic City, make my mouth water. If you haven’t yet, you should check it out ^_^
