  1. Thank you so much for showing some love for Genndy T.’s 2D Clone Wars. That show was awesome. Genndy has such an eye for setting and mood. The artwork was beautiful as well. I tried to argue in favor of his “vector art style” with Mike Blachard, but it didn’t work.

As for Batman Sub-Zero, I love that one too, but Mask of the Phantasm still holds a special place in my heart. The opening sequence is one of the best I’ve seen.

    • Yeah, I don’t know what the deal is with Mike’s dislike for the Genndy art style in Clone Wars. It was simplified, but it was never crude. The Genndy stuff was always epic when it needed to be, conveyed emotion when it counted, and built the characters up in ways that the movies never did.

  2. Neil, you have a very classy list. I can really appreciate Iron Giant being the top, it was like a hidden jem. One of the best CG movies I’ve seen would have to be Final Fantasy Advent Children, of course I was just amazed by the action, story wise, you’d have to background check alot just to understand what the crap is going on. And for it’s time, that other FF movie wasn’t too bad to look at either I’ll admit.

  3. “I Go Pogo” was released on VHS by Disney in 1979. (I just happen to have a copy of this film and think it needs to be shown every 4 years – at least.)

  4. It would be great to have the entire list posted on the site. You made me want to go back and watch some of these gems. The Secret of NIMH is on Netflix streaming in HD (not quite sure it was truly HD quality, but, oh well), so I watched it last night when the “HD” quality of The Iron Giant sucked so hard I had to turn it off. This morning I ran to the local retail store to finally buy my copy…for only $5! Toy Story is awesome, of course. And Transformers The Movie is good. Glad to see Heavy Metal on the list too. I saw it later in life, and I couldn’t believe what I had missed!

If you guys do decide to do a Filmation Ghostbusters commentary (and God help you), you can watch it via Netflix streaming now. I like the opening sequence and the song well enough, but the rest of that show is just atrocious. It should make for an entertaining commentary. The Real Ghostbusters walks all over it, turns around, and spits in its face. But you knew that. Anyway, just wanted to let you know how to easily find that awful series.

    • I had intentionally left the list off of the show post. In fact, I had worded the post in such a way to be misleading and only giving away a couple of the choices on my list. That way, the listener might be pleasantly surprised by some of the choices. I wanted people to listen and go, “Oh, THAT movie!”

And GYAAAAAHD! Filmation Ghost Busters. I know of only one person on the planet who actually likes THAT show.
